Lisa's Journey to Empowerment

Mission Moment - July 2024

Lisa has discovered that sobriety empowers her to make positive, self-directed choices. She's found a wealth of support available simply by asking for it. During her stay at YWCA’s Steppingstone Supportive Living Treatment Program, she was prepared to reintegrate into society as a fully functioning individual. The cozy apartment provided a safe haven she hadn't experienced in a long time.

Her counselor at YWCA played a pivotal role in her journey, offering accountability and helping her navigate challenges. Lisa finally felt she was making meaningful progress with someone who truly understood her experiences. The program's groups emphasized reuniting with family, setting achievable goals, and accessing additional resources when needed.

Nowadays, Lisa dedicates her time to volunteering at a local food pantry, giving back to the community that supported her during her recovery journey.

Being around so many positive women was really important to me,” commented Lisa. “It’s all about setting and achieving your goals. No one is going to do it for you, but these people are going to help you—that I know. All you have to do is ask.
