Get Help
YWCA of Rochester and Monroe County has many options to assist with finding housing.
For most of our programs, women have to be in a shelter or experiencing homelessness. In addition to emergency shelter, we have Permanent Supportive Housing programs, Rapid Rehousing programs and Steppingstone Supportive Living, a program for women (and their children) in recovery. Below is a brief description of each program.
Emergency Housing ↘
Placements at our emergency shelter are made through the local Monroe County Department of Human Services. You can call 585-753-6044 (Monday through Friday) or 585-442-1742 after hours to complete an application and be placed. You can request YWCA, but this does not guarantee placement at our facility.
Rapid Rehousing & Permanent Supportive Housing ↘
Rapid Rehousing and Permanent Supportive Housing units are filled using the community wide prioritization list. Women will be placed on this list when they enter emergency housing at any shelter. When there are openings in these housing programs we are required to go to the prioritization list and pull names from there. Due to this requirement, we often cannot assist with housing for folks that aren’t already experiencing homelessness.
Supportive Living Stepping Stones ↘
YWCA’s Steppingstone Supportive Living Program offers support for women in recovery who are making the transition to independent living. Staff help women through the difficult work of recovery. Steppingstone allows women to remain with their children (ages 12 and under) while in recovery, so no woman has to choose between her child or receiving help for her addiction.
