Supportive Living for Women in Recovery

Help for Women in Recovery

YWCA’s Steppingstone Supportive Living Residential Treatment Program offers hope – and proven results – for women in recovery who are making the transition to independent living. Compassionate staff help women take responsibility for their lives and the challenging work of recovery.

Since no woman should have to choose between her child and receiving help for her addiction, YWCA’s program allows women to remain with their children (ages 12 and under) while in recovery.

Each year, the program provides housing and treatment services to nearly 80 women. In a safe, supportive, and structured environment, women maintain sobriety and achieve a healthy lifestyle free from addiction.

Program Details:

Program Philosophy, Principles, and Target Population

The staff of the YWCA Steppingstone Supportive Living Residential Program believes that substance abuse is a chronic but treatable disease that affects every aspect of a woman’s life.

Supportive Living services are designed to promote independent living in a supervised setting for individuals who have completed another course of treatment, are transitioning to independent living, and whose need for services does not require on-site staffing twenty-four hours a day. These treatment services cater to individuals who either require a long-term supportive environment following care in another type of residential service for an undetermined length of stay, or who need a transitional living environment before establishing independent community living.

The Program draws from various models regarding the impact of substance use disorders and addiction on the family system. It focuses on treating the physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and social aspects of the disorder. Services are provided in a manner that is strength-based, person-centered, and trauma-informed.

The mission of the YWCA Steppingstone Supportive Living Residential Program is to assist women, their children, and family members in healing from the impact of addiction and developing healthy coping skills. Supportive Living is a confidential and woman-sensitive environment that involves residents in making choices. It is non-judgmental and empowering, treating each individual with dignity and respect regardless of age, race, creed, color, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, military status, criminal justice status, sex, marital status, language barriers, or disability. Moreover, it provides tools and skills needed to enhance self-esteem and develop problem-solving abilities so that each woman may enjoy the freedom of a substance-free life.
