Emergency Housing ↘
Each year, YWCA’s Emergency Housing program serves over 600 women and children in crisis.
The goals of the program are to help homeless women and families find appropriate housing and improve financial stability. The goal of the trauma informed program is designed to build on each woman’s individual strengths. Special emphasis is placed on building the support networks necessary to achieve stability and avoid future homelessness.
Program Details:
Individual rooms or apartments offer privacy during a time of crisis and change; each resident has access to a common kitchen, lounge, and children’s playroom
Women and families entering the program receive an individualized assessment and meet with a case manager to create a personalized goal plan to find appropriate housing
On-site health screenings and mental health assessments are offered in partnership with local healthcare providers
Experienced, trained staff help women overcome the effects of domestic violence and other trauma
Drop-in childcare is available each week as participants search for housing, attend skill building classes, and keep other appointments
Eligible clients receive up to one year of follow-up support services in the community to ensure success in maintaining housing stability
Open to women over the age of 18 who are currently homeless and all custodial children
Placement Information:
Thank you for your interest in YWCA Emergency Housing. We are here to help and want to do our best to assist you during this time of transition.
In order to determine eligibility for Emergency Housing Placement; please apply for Emergency Assistance at the Department of Human Services (DHS) at 691 St. Paul and complete an application. Hours for DHS are Monday-Friday from 8:00AM-4:00PM. DHS will then determine if you qualify for Emergency Assistance.
Although the Department of Human Services determines which shelter you are placed at, you are welcome to request a placement at YWCA. If you are placed at YWCA for shelter, DHS will contact YWCA to make arrangements for your transition.
Please note, if you are employed or have other income you have to pay a portion of your shelter stay, but shelter providers will work with you to find the best housing fit for you or your family.
If you have questions please contact YWCA Emergency Housing Program Supervisor at 585-368-2220.
We look forward to working with you.
